My vision of Englishness

For me, my life, my memories and my experience of Englishness was formed in Stoke Newington where I grew up. All those things that made me English, including, but hardly limited to my birth in this particular geographical location happened in or near there.

But I know Englishness when I see it. And I see it everywhere in England.

    Good article and maybe Miliband might stop knocking Scottishness and the absolute pride that has come from being that for years.. We in Scotland have been slated as nationalists for years yet for many of us its patriotism for our country. Its not our fault that many English have not stood up and been proud of their Englishness long before now. Instead they have wasted energy in all the negative, bigoted comments aimed at the Scots for their pride of being Scottish.

    I don’t think that’s his intention at all. I think Ed is fine with people being proud of being Scottish as much as it’s ok to be proud to be English. That doesn’t mean that either he, or I for that matter, would ever equate that pride with the support for separation. One can be proud of being English or Scottish and support the union.
