Ashcroft and Unite are Not Equivalent

The Tory media line today is that the Labour Party is in the pocket of the Unions and therefore unable to stand firm against them, and even more insane that Unite donating to Labour is equivalent of the donations recieved by the Tories from Michael Ashcroft
let me break it down for you:
Ashcroft = One Tax Dodger who gave millions and has unparalleled access and power within a political party
Unite = thousands of UK taxpayers who legally contribute to a legal political fund with the Party whose values closest match theirs.
Cameron when questioned on Ashcroft refused to answer, even coming up with that awful “flogging a dead horse” line.
Brown when talking about threatened strike action called it “unjustified and deplorable”.
Sorry Daily Mail, Sun et al. Like a grounded plane, that one just won’t fly.

I thought Lord Paul was more the Labour equivalent to Ashcroft.
“unjustified and deplorable” my arse, I don’t work for BA and don’t particularly have much knowledge of the situation there, but if my Unite membership fees are proping up this idiot who doesn’t seem to understand that the unions created the Labour party then maybe I should be opting out of the political levy.

The Tories tried Lord Paul. It didn’t stick becuase the level of influence and power clearly isn’t equivalent. So they moved on to Whelan as I discuss in a later post.
I also disagree with Brown’s comments. I think the actions are justified – again discussed un a later post specifically on the strike – but I do think this quote exemplifies the difference in the Labour approach to Unite and the Tory approach to Ashcroft.
